Whether you're road-tripping, hiking a trail, or camping beside a river, there's nothing better than sipping a creamy, antioxidant-packed matcha latte under the open sky.
We've been working on perfecting an easy recipe to make a hot latte on the go and finally landed the perfect combo. Here’s how to whip up our favorite Backcountry Matcha Latte—no fridge or bulky milk frother required. We use a compact small battery operated electric frother.
Note: A little prep goes a long way. We pre-portioned each drink into a small container so no measuring needed to happen out on trail.
We started coming up with this recipe after Hurricane Helene devasted Western North Carolina and we didn't have power for weeks. We were grateful to have a Jetboil Stash stove to give us the comfort of a warm latte during a challenging time.
This recipe is perfect for:
- Camping
- Backpacking
- Day hikes
- Van life mornings
- When you don't have power
- Literally any time you need joy in a cup

Ingredients
-
1 tsp Matcha Nude (because yes, you deserve the good stuff even in the wild)
-
2 tbsp powdered coconut milk
-
2 tbsp cashew powder
-
1 tsp coconut sugar
- Hot water
-
An insulated mug
-
Electric whisk or small jar
Directions
- Heat water on your camp stove (don’t let it boil—it’s gentler on your matcha this way).
- Add a splash of warm water into your cup.
Whisk in your matcha, coconut milk, cashew powder, and coconut sugar. (We bring it pre-portioned out and mixed together.)
- Top with more warm water, stir or whisk again, and boom—frothy green magic.
